On Day 11 of Baking Arts we made a fruit flan. Although it was relatively easy to make I wasn’t too happy with the outcome. I’m just not into flans; and if I were told that I had to roll out pastry dough I’d rather make an apple pie! Here is the crust before it gets baked:
Now we prep all that fruit:
Once the crust is baked we put a thin coating of chocolate and layer in some vanilla pudding:
Next you glaze the flan, apply nuts, and presto, the finished product:
So would I make this one again? Probably not. On a scale of 1 to 10 on the likelihood of making this again I rate this a 7. The end-product just isn’t all that rewarding for me especially since the amount of effort required is roughly equivalent to making an apple pie.

what are the slits in the bottom of the crust for?
The slits are for docking the crust. When you bake just the crust (no filling) you run the risk of the crust puffing up which you don’t want. The alternative would be to bake the crust with some beans.
